Project is part of the plans to expand Muscat International airport
Oman’s Transport & Communication Ministry has selected the local/UK Carillion Alawi to build the estimated OR57m ($147m) contract to build the air traffic control tower for Muscat International Airport.
The ministry selected Carillion on the 25 October. Carillion saw off competition from the only other bidder, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) with Turkey’s TAV.
The project is part of the sultanate’s plan to expand and upgrade Muscat International. The Transport and Communication Ministry recently awarded an OR706m ($1.8bn) contract to a consortium of US’ Bechtel, the local Bahwan Engineering and Turkey’s Enka to build the new passenger terminal at Muscat International airport.
The consortium is expected to begin work on the terminal by the end of the year. It is estimated the work will take 38 months to complete. The new building will cover a total area of 300,000 square metres and will have a total capacity of 12 million passengers annually (MEED 27:10:10).
