CCC awarded Gaza township

11 January 2002

Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC)has received a letter of intent for the contract to build the Sheikh Zayed township in Gaza. Worth an estimated $55 million, the award calls for CCC to move on site in late January. The client is the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, which is financing the 20-month project (MEED 23:11:01).

The project involves the construction of a township over an area of about 400,000 square metres. CCC will install all the infrastructure, including roads, landscaping, drainage, sewerage, electricity, water and telephone lines. It will also build about 70 four-storey and five 11-storey residential blocks, as well as a municipal centre, a clinic, a mosque, schools, shops and offices.

Six international contractors originally submitted bids for the two-year contract in May. However, a retender was subsequently announced when bids came in over budget. CCC was the low bidder in the second round.

The consultant is Germany's Diwi Consult International.
