Financial bids were opened from four out of the six original bidders – CCC, the local Galfar Engineering & Contractingand STFAand Tekfen, both of Turkey. The local Hassan bin Juma bin Baker Trading & Contracting and China State Construction Engineering Companywere eliminated during the technical evaluation.

The contract covers all infrastructure work at the port, including roads, buildings, bulk excavation, drainage, telecommunications networks and pipelines. The local office of the US’ Parsons Internationalis the consultant to the client, the Transport & Communications Ministry.

The contract is the latest in a series of awards recently made for the Sohar development. In late May, a joint venture of CCC and Italy’s Saipemwon the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on the mixed feedstock pipeline, and the local Arabian Industrieswas awarded the pressure reduction terminal package (MEED 4:6:04).
