18 March 2008
China Railway Group has won a $275m contract to build two highways in Morocco.

A subsidiary of China Railway, China Overseas Engineering Group, will carry out the work, which is expected to take 30 months.

China Railway was established as a joint stock company in 2007 with 46 subsidiaries and in 2007 was ranked 342 in the list of Fortune Global 500 companies.

To date, it has been involved in the construction of more than 22,660 kilometres of electrified railway lines, approximately 95 per cent of all electrified railway lines in China.

In January, two subsidiaries of China’s other state-owned rail group, the China Railway Construction Corporation lost out to the state-owned Russian Railways on a $800m contract to build a 520 kilometre railway line in Saudi Arabia (MEED 22:01:08).
