China to probe nuclear claims

18 February 2004
China is to investigate claims that nuclear weapons designs linked to the country have been found in Libya. Reuters news agency quoted a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman as saying: 'China expresses its concern about the relevant reports. We are trying to learn more about the circumstances.'

An official from the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security told the Financial Times that the documents contain 'very dangerous information that far exceeds that found in public or on the internet'.
