  • Agreement signed with Chinese contractor first in Iran

Chinese transport infrastructure contractor China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) is to build the second and third phases of the Tehran-North Highway project.

The deal is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and CCCC in early 2015.

The second phase of the Tehran-North Highway project is valued at an estimated $500m, although the total cost of the project could reach $2bn. The phase covers 23 kilometres of road, some 6.5km of which comprises tunnels.

The project is understood to link the capital with the Northern province of Mazandaran, and the first phase was planned 20 years earlier.

In September, Iran Power & Water Equipment and Services Export Company (Sunir) signed a contract with China’s Shandong Electric Power Corporation (Sepco) to carry out projects in the power and energy sectors.
