Chinese to build Rotana Hotel in Fujairah

China National Aero Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC)has been awarded the estimated AED 90 million ($25 million) contract to build a new five-star luxury hotel in Fujairah. The contract calls for the construction of a low-rise 200-bedroom development with leisure, sport and health facilities.

Abu-Dhabi-based Rotana Hotelswill own and manage the property. Due for completion in mid-2006, the hotel will be located on a two-kilometre stretch at Al-Aqah, near Dibba. A company identified as UK Hotel Holdingswill also own and manage a second hotel on the same strip. The property, called the Royal Miramar, is estimated to cost AED 70 million ($19 million). Fujairah saw a steady rise in tourist numbers in 2003, with tourist arrivals growing by 48 per cent to almost 180,000 (MEED 20:12:02).
