EXCLUSIVE: Client evaluates people mover study bids

Transport and Communications Ministry received bids for the West Bay automatic people mover system in June

The Transport & Communications Ministry (MOTC) is understood to be reviewing the bids for the feasibility study on the automatic people mover (APM) for Doha’s West Bay area.

MOTC received the bids on 3 June.

MEED understands US-based Parsons and Aecom were among the firms looking to bid for the contract when it was tendered earlier this year.

The scheme covers design and construction of track work, stops, a depot facility, technical rooms and a substation, in addition to the APM system.

West Bay is Doha’s new business district and is home to some of the country’s most modern high-rises.

It also suffers from major road congestion, especially during rush hours.

An APM is expected to ease that problem by allowing people to park their cars in multi-storey car parking facilities, and walk to and from their office buildings.
