Consultants also shortlisted for Doha Bay Crossing project

A consortium comprising the US’ Aecom and the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has won the project management consultancy (PMC) for Qatar’s road safety programme.

The group will check the safety of work zones, speed limits and signage on all expressways and local roads across Qatar. It will make any recommendations to the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

Ashghal has also shortlisted consultants for the PMC contract for the Doha Bay Crossing project.

Ashghal has already awarded a number of PMC contracts for its transport projects. The US’ KBR has the PMC contract for expressways, which comprises 30 major road projects over the next six years, including the Doha Expressway. The budget for all the major roads is more than QR45bn ($12bn).

The US’ Parsons Brinckerhoff won the PMC for local roads and drainage. The projects are worth about QR30bn and cover all of Qatar.

Under this contract, Qatar is divided into five zones to make the projects easier to manage. The UK’s Hyder Consulting has the PMC for Doha North, the UK’s Atkins has the PMC for Doha West and the US’ Parsons has the PMC for Doha South. The PMC for Qatar South is still pending.
