Construction of Kuwait's $9bn refinery and petrochemical complex in the southern Chinese city is to start in the first quarter of next year, Kuna has reported. Last March, Kuwait has received the necessary approval to build a long-awaited refinery and petrochemical complex on Donghai Island of Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province. The joint venture between Kuwait Petroleum Corp and Sinopec involves a 15 million-tonne-a-year (300,000 barrels per day) refinery, a 1 million-tonne-a-year ethylene plant and related utilities, as well as support facilities.
