US-based Foster Wheeler Corporation has been appointed consultant for a project to maximise the high-value products at the three oil refineries at Mina al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Shuaiba. The firm will take about nine months in preparing a study for the client, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC- MEED 31:8:01).
The project will focus on upgrading and modernising the existing facilities and will cover the replacement of some of the existing crude distillation units and the installation of continuous catalytic reformer units and related facilities.
KNPC is also planning to increase the storage capacity and related facilities at the three oil refineries. Up to six international companies are preparing to submit bids by 3 March for the position of project consultant (MEED 11:1:02).
