Enhanced shipyard will support Milaha’s four key market sectors

Milaha has appointed Netherlands-based Royal Haskoning to develop upgrade plans for its shipyard facilities.

The planned upgrade will include a new, larger floating dock and larger workshops designed to support specialised services offered by the shipyard, Qatar Navigation (Milaha) said in a statement.

According to Milaha’s president and CEO, Abdulrahman Essa al-Mannai, the upgrade aims to support the firm’s business strategy and increase the shipyard’s market share in four diversified target market sectors, with minimal disruption to the ongoing operations at the facility.

Doha-based Milaha business focuses on maritime and logistics, gas and petrochemicals, offshore and capital.

The publicly listed firm generated a net profit of QR400m ($109m) in the first nine months of 2018, up 10 per cent over the corresponding period last year, on the back of QR1.8bn in revenue.

Last year, Milaha launched warehousing and third-party logistics services in Oman and new container feeder services to Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan and India.

It inaugurated the first phase of Milaha Logistics City earlier this year.
