QatarA contract award is awaited for the second package on the Museum of Islamic Arts project, following the opening of bid prices by the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) in late August. According to the bid opening prices, the lowest offer came from Kuwait’s Gulf Dredging & General Contracting Companyat QR 57.9 million ($15.9 million). However, the contractor offered four other prices ranging up to QR 70 million ($19.2 million). A local/Belgian joint venture of Midmac Contractingand Six Constructpriced the contract at QR 64.5 million ($17.7 million), while the local Al-Huda Engineering Worksoffered a quote of QR 74.6 million ($20.5 million).
The package involves marine works and piling. The prequalification list for package 3, the structure and cladding works, is close to being finalised. There are expected to be two-three other packages on the project, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works and interior design. The architect on the landmark development is the US’ IM Pei Architects, the project manager is the US’ Turner International, and the client is the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture (MEED 11:7:03).
