25 November 2007
The local Al-Shaer Engineering has been awarded the estimated SR256m ($69m) contract to expand King Abdulaziz airport in Jeddah.

The project seeks to raise the airport’s capacity to 30 million passengers a year in the first phase. Al Shaer will also construct facilities to allow big jets such as the A380 superjumbo to land and dock at the airport. The contract duration is five years.
The contract is part of a larger scheme, which includes doubling the capacity of the Haj terminal from 4.5 million to 9.2 million passengers by 2025 (MEED 12:10:07).
