Doha Bank will provide Leighton Contracting Qatar with funding

  • The $600m reservoir project will be financed by Doha Bank
  • Facility will have seven days of water storage

Leighton Contracting Qatar, a division of UAE-based Habtoor Leighton Group, has secured QR2.2bn ($600m) as finance for its work on Qatar’s Mega Reservoirs project from Doha Bank.

The reservoirs, with a capacity of 100 million gallons (450,000 cubic metres) each, are the largest reinforced concrete reservoirs in the world. When complete, the facility aims to provide Kahramaa’s network system with seven days of water storage capabilities.

The first phase of the project is currently being built. It will deliver storage capacity of about 2.3 billion gallons of water in 24 concrete reservoirs.

The second stage of the project will begin after 2020. It will include construction of additional pipelines and 16 new reservoirs at five sites. It aims to achieve a storage capacity of about 3.8 billion gallons of water.
