Contractor submits low bid for Doha road construction deal

30 April 2017

The Mesaimeer Road contract is valued at about $450m

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has received bids from contractors for the construction and upgrading of Mesaimeer Road.

It is understood that the lowest bidder is Lebanon’s Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and the local Teyseer Contracting with an offer of about $450m. The second lowest bidder is Belgium’s Six Construct with an offer of about $480m.

The 42-month contract involves the upgrade of 4.2 kilometres of Mesaimeer Road from three lanes to four lanes, the construction of intersections connecting Bu Hamour Street, Haloul Street and Salwa Road, four pedestrian bridges, and a central viaduct.

The project management consultant for the scheme is the US’ KBR.

Ashghal has been awarding and tendering several major road construction deals over the past year.

In March, Ashghal awarded CCC/Teyseer a QR2.82bn ($774m) contract to design and build the Al-Bustan Street North project. Al-Bustan Street North is a crucial segment of Qatar’s $20bn Expressway Programme.

In late April, MEED reported that it is expected to retender a previously cancelled road project to selected contractors.

The package for the construction of the Duhail Intersection and Al-Gharaffa Street is part of the multibillion-dollar Expressway Programme.

The scope includes road works, intersections, link roads, waste water drainage and ducts, among other related facilities.

The contract was first tendered in 2015.
