Qatars Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Aspire Zone Foundation will construct accommodation for labourers working on the planned Al-Bayt stadium.
Local firm Al-Khor & Dakira Schemes Services Company has been appointed as the main contractor responsible for the design and construction of the accommodation project, which will house 2,700 workers.
Contractors submitted their best and final offers for Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor on 12 April. The project is divided into three main construction packages. The largest involves building a 60,000-seat stadium for the football tournament. The others include the construction of a retail precinct and a utilities centre. Completion of the scheme is expected in 2018.
Qatar has faced international critiscim over its treatment of workers, particularly those working on World Cup facilities.
In June, MEED reported that Qatar is expecting to complete the final draft of its reformed labour legislation by the end of 2015, according to a statement issued by the Government Communications Office.
