Contractors bid for Ras al-Zour housing scheme

Nine contractors have submitted bids for an estimated $500m contract to build housing units for workers at the planned fertiliser and aluminium complexes at Ras al-Zour on the Saudi Arabian Gulf coast.

The bids were submitted on 10 June.

The bidding companies include six local firms, Al-Rashid, Al-Khodari Contracting Company, Saudi Binladin Group, Saad Construct, Al-Oasis Contracting Company and Redico, as well as J&P Overseas of Greece, and the Chinese/local China Harbour Engineering Arabia Company.

The client is Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden)

The work covers the construction of 2,180 bachelor housing units with associated common buildings, outdoor sport facilities, roads, fencing, gates and landscaping. The total area is 88 hectares.

The bidders each submitted two bids, the first for pre-cast concrete structures and another for prefabricated units. An award should be made by the autumn (MEED 6:3:08).
