Resort will be developed on Yas Island
Local developer Miral has invited selected companies to prequalify to bid for a contract to build a hotel development on Abu Dhabis Yas Island.
Known as the Integrated Destination Resort the project is understood to be part of a broader Abu Dhabi initiative to develop new attractions on Yas Island such as a theme park and an indoor arena.
The project manager is the UKs Faithful & Gould.
Construction work on the theme park has already started. In April, Miral said it plans to open the $1bn Warner Bros theme park by 2018.
The local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi was awarded the construction contract in 2015. The project involves building indoor and outdoor areas for 19 themed rides.
Yas Island is home to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as well as Yas Mall, Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World, a series of hotels, and villas.
More villas are planned. In April, local developer Aldar Properties launched a AED6bn ($1.63bn) villa project at its Yas Island development known as Yas Acres.
