Contractors prepare bids for Ajman interchange

20 December 2009

Project includes the construction of a bridge and three tunnels

The UAE’s Public Works Ministry has invited firms to bid by 6 January for a contract to build a road intersection in the emirate of Ajman.

The successful bidder will upgrade the existing Al-Hamidiya interchange by building a new road bridge and three underpasses on the Sheikh Zayed highway.

US-based Wilbur Smith is the consultant.

The existing Al-Hamidiya interchange was built in 2004 for AED24m ($6.5m).

In 2008 UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan allocated AED16bn for infrastructure projects in the northern emirates.

The funds are being spent on improving the road network, sewage and drainage systems, and social infrastructure projects such as schools and hospitals.
