Contractors shortlisted for two more OGD-3/AGD-2 packages

01 August 2003
Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Company (Gasco) finalised in late July the prequalification list for two more engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) packages on the third phase of the onshore gas development (OGD-3) and the second phase of the Asab gas development (AGD-2) projects (MEED 28:3:03).

Seven companies are prequalified to bid for packages 3 and 4. The larger of the two contracts is the estimated $500 million fourth package, which covers the construction of a third natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation train, storage, jetty and berth facilities at Ruwais. Package 3, worth about $400 million, involves the construction of facilities for condensate and NGL recovery and a NGL export pipeline at the onshore Asab oil field. UOPof the US is the licensor for the NGL recovery units.

The OGD-3/AGD-2 projects cover the construction of a new gas plant at Habshan to process 1,306 million cubic feet a day (cf/d) of well-stream fluid into 11,000 tonnes a day (t/d) of NGL, 3,400 t/d of ethane and 125,000 barrels a day (b/d) of condensate. These streams will then be transported through existing pipelines to the fractionation facilities at Ruwais.

The project is being tendered in five separate packages. Prequalification has been completed for the first EPC package - the construction of tanks at Ruwais for the storage of condensate and tie-ins with product lines. Six companies are prequalified to bid the estimated $70 million contract, which is known as package 5 (MEED 11:7:03).

A list of prequalifiers is expected to be officially announced soon for the remaining two EPC packages - packages 1 and 2.

EPC 1, worth $200 million, covers the construction of gas-gathering and sour injection facilities at Habshan. EPC 2, at about $1,100 million the largest in the programme, calls for the construction of condensate and NGL recovery facilities at Habshan. All five packages are due to go for tender in late 2003, with completion set for 2007.

Bechtel of the US has completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for the project. Foster Wheeler, also of the US, is the overall project manager. The overall client is Gasco (MEED 8:5:03).
