Contractors submit prices for Abu Dhabi oil company headquarters

17 February 2010

Technical bids were submitted in early December

State-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has received commercial bids for the contract to build its corporate headquarters on Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The bidders competing for the contract include the local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group; the local Arabtec Construction; South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering & Construction; Australia’s Multiplex; the local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi; Turkey’s Nurol; and Germany’s Ed Zueblin.

Adnoc earlier received technical bids in December.

The new building will be adjacent to the current Adnoc headquarters, at the intersection of Corniche road and Bainunah street in the UAE capital.

The scheme includes an office tower, podium and atrium, basement parking areas, a separate underground car park, and a tunnel connecting the office tower with the car park. The total built-up area will be about 190,000 square metres.

Abu Dhabi’s Arabian Foundations has already started work on the enabling works package. The architect is US-based Hok. The US’ Hill International is the project manager (MEED 6:1:10).

At least three other major headquarters buildings are being planned and built in Abu Dhabi.

In early February local developer Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) invited contractors to prequalify for the contract to build its new corporate headquarters next to Maqta bridge.

Two major contracts to build headquarters were awarded last year. In December sovereign wealth fund Abu Dhabi Investment Council (Adic) formally awarded the local/UK Al-Futtaim Carillion the estimated AED900m ($245m) contract to build its new offices.

In May, International Petroleum Investment Company (Ipic) awarded an estimated AED900m contract to the local Commodore Contracting Company for its headquarters.
