New Sheikh Khalifa Medical City hospital will be built on Abu Dhabi Island
Contractors are still waiting for a decision on the award of the contract to build Sheikh Khalifa Medical City on Abu Dhabi Island.
The project client, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada), received bids earlier this year. The lowest bid was from the local/Australian Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG), with a price of about AED3.9bn ($1.1bn).
The second-lowest bidder, with a price of about AED4.9bn, is a consortium of Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), Beijing-based China State Construction & Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) and Italys Techint Engineering & Construction.
The other two bidders are Bam of the Netherlands with a price of about AED4.9bn, and a joint venture of South Koreas Samsung C&T and the local Al-Faraa General Contracting Company with an offer of about AED5.1bn.
The planned hospital will cover a total area of 278,709 square metres and will combine general hospital facilities with a trauma centre, and womens and paediatric centres, with a total of 838 beds. The central area of the proposed medical campus will house restaurants, and retail and education spaces.
Musanada took over the responsibility of Abu Dhabi government construction projects last year. The delivery of the hospital was previously handled by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha), which will operate the facility once it has been built.
