Contracts awarded on Oman's Quriyat-Sur Road project

STFA awarded $88m contract to build the first section of the highway under the second phase

OmanThe Transport & Communications Ministry has awarded the two main contracts on the second-phase development of the Quriyat-Sur road project. Turkey’s STFAwas awarded the contract, valued at RO 33.5 million ($88 million), to build the first section of the highway under the second phase.

This covers the construction of 62 kilometres of four-lane carriageway, from Daghmar roundabout, near Muscat, to Wadi As Shab, and two bridges at Wadi Dayqah and Wadi Arabyeen. The second section of the project was awarded to China Railway & Engineering Corporation.

Its contract, valued at RO 22.7 million ($59 million), covers the construction of 26 kilometres of four-lane carriageway from Wadi As Shab to the recently-built Sur roundabout, and the construction of three bridges crossing Wadi As Shab, Wadi Riwi and Wadi Hilm. Seven other companies were competing for the work with prices based on options for four-lane and six-lane dual or single-carriageways. Belgium’s Renardetis the consultant. The completion period for the work is 33-36 months (MEED 6:6:03).
