Convention centre package goes for bid

The first superstructure package has been issued for bid on the estimated $400 million Abu Dhabi convention centre project. For package 6, the palace superstructure works, prequalifiers have been given until 9 January to submit bids. The tender for package 7, covering the superstructure for the east and west hotels, is expected to be issued by the end of December (MEED 30:11:01).

Prospective bidders for package 6 are understood to include the UK's Balfour Beatty, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), Interbetonof the Netherlands, John Laing Constructionof the UK, Canada's Milne & Nichol, South Korea's Samsung Corporation, and Belgium's Six Construct.

The superstructure packages will be followed by the release of tenders for packages 9 and 10, covering the general construction works for the palace, the conference centre and the hotels. In total, there are 16 separate bid packages on the project. The client is the Abu Dhabi government.

The UK's WAT&Gis the project architect and the US' Turner Internationalis the project manager (MEED 3:8:01).
