UAE-based COWI-Almoayed Gulfreceived in late September a letter of intent to provide consultancy services for the dredging of the seawater intake channel in front of the Hidd power and desalination plant. The project is intended to ease the flow of seawater entering the plant. The Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW) is the client.
France's Alstom Poweris in the final stages of a 700-MW phase 2 expansion programme at Hidd, which involves adding three 13/A2 turbines to the plant's original 140-MW gas units. MEW is preparing to invite consultants to bid for the phase 3 expansion of Hidd, which involves the construction of a 60 million-gallon-a-day desalination plant. COWI's scope of works is to ensure that the facility's common intake will have an uninterrupted supply of seawater (MEED 11:1:02).
