Croatians win industrial interchange

23 June 2006
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded Croatia's Konstruktor Engineering the QR 640 million ($175 million) industrial interchange contract, which represents the third package on the Doha Expressway scheme. The award is the first by the contractor in the local market. South Korea's Sungwon was the other main competitor (MEED 16:12:05).

The intersection will be built at the north-east corner of the industrial area at the junction of Salwa road with Al-Forousiyah street. The 700-day contract covers the construction of a 1 kilometre-long underpass with three lanes in each direction, a roundabout with three lanes in each direction, a four-lane dual carriageway bridge along Salwa road, and a two-lane bridge linking Salwa road and East Industrial street.

Germany's Bilfinger Berger is working on packages 1 and 2 of the Doha expressway project, under a QR 1,000 million ($274 million) contract awarded last December. Ashghal is also evaluating bids for package 4, which covers 22 kilometres from Wakrah town to D Ring Road (Khalifa al-Attiyah junction).

US-based Parsons International is the consultant.
