CSHK wins Dubai Mall hotel contract

Local developer Emaar Propertieshas awarded CSHK Dubai Contracting (CSHK), the local affiliate of China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong), an estimated AED 750 million ($204 million) contract to build the Dubai Mall hotel on its Burj Dubai development. The contract is the latest hotel award on the development, which will eventually have eight hotels with 2,000 rooms (MEED 30:9:05).

The latest contract calls for the construction of a 40-storey tower and a five-level podium that will house a clubhouse, gymnasium, spa, banqueting halls and a swimming pool deck. The hotel will be connected to Dubai Mall, which was awarded to a joint venture of the local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty (DBB)and Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) in late 2004. The consultant is Meinhardt Singapore and US-based Turner Construction Internationalis the project manager.

Other hotel awards include the 300-metre-high Lake View hotel and serviced apartments, which was awarded to the local/Belgian joint venture of Arabtec Constructionand Bel Hasa Six Construct in October; a Giorgio Armanihotel in the Burj Dubai tower; and two hotels in the Old Town district, to be managed by South Africa's Southern Sun Hotel(MEED 7:10:05).
