State-operated energy company Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (Egas) has signed an agreement with Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company committing to a study looking at the feasibility of importing gas from Cyprus’ Aphrodite field.

The latest agreement builds on preliminary deal that was signed in February.

The new research conducted under the agreement will examine the feasibility of transporting gas from the field directly to Egypt via a maritime pipeline.

Aphrodite is located in the exploratory drilling block 12, within Cyprus’ maritime Exclusive Economic Zone.

Block 12 is believed to hold between 3.6 and 6.0trn standard cubic feet (SCF) of natural gas.

The Aphrodite gas field is operated by US-based Nobel Energy.
