UAE contractor awarded contracts for three developments on Lusail development
UAE-based developer Damac Properties has awarded the local Draieh Contracting three contracts worth a total of $164m for construction work at the Lusail City development in Doha.
Draieh will carry out construction work on three mixed-use developments in Qatar’s Lusail City development. The contractor will be working on the Business Square, Piazza 1 and Piazza 2 developments.
Lusail City is being built over a total area of 35,000 square metres. The development will contain, residential clusters, commercial districts, shopping and leisure facilities and two golf courses.
The state-owned Qatari Diar Real Estate Development Company is the master developer for the project.
The main mode of public transportation for the Lusail development will be the light-rail-transit (LRT), which will cover 22 kilometres and include with 34 stations. Germany’s Hochtief will oversee the development of the LRT network. In April 2010, Hochtief founded a joint venture with Lusail Real Estate Development Company, a subsidiary of Qatari Diar, to develop Lusail City.
The local Qatar Railways Development Company recently invited companies to submit bids for the rolling stock contract for the LRT project. The rolling stock contract involves supplying 34 trains to serve the LRT (MEED 1:4:11).
