Plans are under way to relocate the main oil supply pipeline running from Dammam to the Sitra refinery of Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco). Tebodin Middle East, part of Tebodinof the Netherlands, is working on a feasibility study for the offshore element of the scheme. Saudi Aramcohas also completed studies on the Saudi side of the link.
The 60-kilometre pipeline - originally built in 1945 - is located close to urban areas in Dammam. The new project is designed to free up space for housing development in the coastal city. The pipeline supplies Bapco with 220,000 barrels a day of crude for refining into middle distillates for re-export. Project costs are estimated at about $100 million.
