The West Sama-1 concession in Egypt is expected to contain 4-6 billion cubic feet of gas

Dana Gas has made a new gas field discovery in the Nile Delta, northern Egypt, evaluated to contain 4-6 billion cubic feet, the UAE-based private gas producer announced.

The company is planning to connect the discovery, made at West Sama-1 in the West el-Qantara concession, to a nearby pipeline owned by Dana Gas.

“The West Sama-1 gas discovery will be tied in to the company’s nearby South el-Manzala gas processing plant within a week,” Dana Gas said in a statement.

It is the first dry gas discovery made by Dana Gas in the Kafr el-Sheikh formation in 2012, having now made 23 since the start of its drilling campaign in 2007.

Also this week, Dana Gas announced it had started up its joint-venture natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction plant in Ras Shukheir, Egypt.

The company, which is based in Sharjah, has gas exploration operations in Egypt and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
