The contract is estimated to be worth $1bn and will raise steel production at the plant to 2 million tonnes a year (t/y) of rebar and wire rod.
The expansion will include two new rolling mills, a direct reduction iron (DRI) plant and associated meltshop facilities. Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation (Adbic) is the client. The plant is located in Industrial City Abu Dhabi I.
Danieli is currently working on the engineering, procurement and construction of the first phase of the development.
In January Qatar Steel Company (Qasco) awarded Danieli a $300m technology licensing, equipment supply and installation contract at its Mesaieed steel production plant. Qasco is spending more than $1bn on expanding its Mesaieed complex.
