DBB bids low for Ras al-Khor interchange

17 December 2004
The local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty (DBB)is the clear low bidder for package 2 on the Ras al-Khor bridge project, following the opening of bids by the client, Dubai Municipality. DBB's price of AED 299 million ($81.5 million) for the access route package on the Deira side is some AED 50 million ($13.6 million) cheaper than the next lowest offer submitted by the local/Cypriot National Wheel J&P. For package 1, the Ras al-Khor bridge structure, the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct was the low bidder when prices were submitted in November (MEED 26:11:04).

Four contractors priced the 20-month package 2 contract, which involves the construction of at least 10 bridge structures and an underpass, as well providing access to the Dubai Festival City development. Package 3, the access to the creek bridge crossing on the Bur Dubai side, is expected to go for tender soon.

The Ras al-Khor crossing, to be located 1.5 kilometres to the east of Garhoud bridge, is due to be completed in late 2006 and is aimed at easing traffic congestion across the creek.

The US' De Leuw Cather International, which carried out the feasibility and traffic impact studies for the project, is acting as consultant.
