France’s Degremont has been awarded the Eur 34m ($ 50m) contract to design, build and operate an extension to the Gabl el-Asfar wastewater treatment plant to the east of Cairo. With a capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres a day (cm/d), the plant currently serves 9 million people.
Degremont will increase the capacity of the plant by 300,000 cm/d, securing wastewater treatment for an additional 1.8 million people.
The new contract follows the renewal of Degremont’s contract for the operation of the existing Gabal el-Asfar plant by the client, the Construction Authority for Potable Water and Wastewater. The three-year long contract is worth Eur 19.5m ($28.5m).
