Dell unveils new servers

26 March 2009

Dell is launching a new PS6000 line of EqualLogic iSCSI SAN arrays, featuring solid state drives and expanded software offerings. Dell says the PS6000 delivers up to 91% faster sequential write workload performance than its current PS5000 products, and is up to 29% faster for sequential read workloads. There are five PS6000 models: PS6000E; PS6500E; PS6000X; PS6000XV; and PS6000S (details here). The PS6000S debuts solid state drives - the array has a separate controller dedicated to the SSDs. They can be combined, Dell says, to scale performance linearly. The PS6000s can be integrated with existing PS5000 products to expand their virtual storage pools: a PS group can now have more than 500TB of capacity
