The Works Ministry is preparing to invite consultants to bid for the contract to draw up detailed designs and management proposals for a network of sports complexes in Bahrain. Each facility will comprise uncovered sports playing fields, club buildings, an athletics track, a health club, an Olympic-standard swimming pool, a small mosque, and car parking facilities.
Germany's Tilke has drawn up preliminary studies for the project. Detailed design work is scheduled to take 12 months. A tender for the first construction packages is expected in the fourth quarter of 2003. The projects are part of a wider programme to develop sporting facilities in urban areas around Manama. The client is the General Organisation for Youth & Sport.
