The 200-room hotel will be built at Education City
The UAE-based Dewan Architects & Engineers has been awarded a consultancy contract to design and supervise construction of a hotel in Doha.
Dewan will design the four-storey Premier Inn planned for the Education City development, a 14-square-kilometre development on the western edge of Doha. The three-star hotel will have 200 rooms and is set to open in 2013.
The Education City scheme is being developed by Qatar Foundation.
In March 2011, Qatar Foundation announced that it had appointed Solis Hotels & Resorts to manage a proposed five-star hotel at Education City.
The planned five-star Solis Doha hotel will include 418 guest rooms, a 17,000-square-foot ballroom, 17,000 sq ft of exhibit space, four boardrooms and six meeting rooms. The concept for the hotel was designed by the US-based HKS Hill Glazier Studio in 2009.The hotel is scheduled to open in 2015.
Qatar has pledged to build 60,000 hotel rooms over the next decade in preparation for hosting the 2022 World Cup. With the city’s existing 70 hotels currently offering 10,642 rooms, there will be a significant number of hotel and residential apartment projects out for tender over the next decade. To assist in the effort, Qatar’s Tourism Authority (QTA) will oversee a projected $17bn of tourism infrastructure projects over the next five years.
