A senior executive directing investments into the telecoms sector in North Africa

Biography: Didier Lombard has been chairman of the board of France Telecom since 2005. He stepped down from his position as CEO earlier this year amid a spate of suicides at the firm.
Lombard joined the group in 2003 as executive senior vice-president in charge of technologies, strategic partnerships and new usages. Lombard has led the company’s growth in North Africa, acquiring a stake in Egypt’s Mobinil.
France Telecom plans to launch operations in Tunisia by the end of the year. The firm is also on the verge of acquiring a 40 per cent share in Meditel, Morocco’s second telecoms operator. Lombard served as general manager of industrial strategy at the French Economy, Finance and Industry Ministry from 1999 to 2003.
Lombard is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole Nationale Suprieure des Telecommunication in Paris.
