Norway’s DNO has boosted oil production at its new Peshkabir oil field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to 50,000 barrels a day (b/d), ahead of its end of year target, the company said on 9 October.

The 75 million barrel oil field was only discovered in early 2017 in the Tawke production sharing license area, which DNO operates, along with London-listed Genel Energy, but has swiftly moved to production with new wells added in quick succession.

Four wells are producing a total of 40,000 b/d of crude, commingled with about 100,000 b/d of crude from the Tawke field, for export. Peshkabir-7, one of the newest wells, is producing more than 10,000 b/d through temporary facilities. Further testing is also under way at Peshkabir-6, DNO said in a statement.

The Peshkabir-8 well, spud in late August, is drilling ahead at 2,325 metres. Once completed, the rig will move to spud Peshkabir-9 in November.

All the output is processed at temporary test facilities until DNO can commission a new 50,000 b/d central processing facility by the end of the year.

The company is also installing a ten inch, 60,000 b/d pipeline that will run to Fishkhabour, a metering facility on the border with Turkey, where it will join the Kurdish oil pipeline for export. Field production is currently transported to Fishkhabour by tanker truck and a six inch pipeline.
