Doha high-rise goes for bid

07 May 2004
Tender documents have been released to prequalified contractors for the main contract on what is set to be the tallest building in Doha. To be located in West Bay, the Sheikh Saud office building will be over 230 metres high and capped with a dome. A series of major high-rises are planned in Doha to meet growing demand for office and residential space.

About 10 local and international companies are prequalified to submit design and build bids by 28 June for the tower, which will have 44 levels and three basements. A feature of the 45-metre-diameter building, which will be cylindrical in shape, will be a 112-metre-high atrium.

The architect on the project is Paris-based AteliersJean Nouvel; the engineering consultant is Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners).

Designs are also under way for an even taller building in West Bay. Known as Dubai Tower, the fast-track project calls for the construction of a 72-storey building.
