South Korean firm to supply and install equipment
South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has been selected by the East Delta Electricity Company to supply and install equipment at the Ain Sokhna thermal power plant in Egypt.
The contract is worth $330m and represents Doosan’s first foray into the Egyptian power market.
The Ain Sokhna thermal power plant will comprise two 650MW units and will be built at Ain Sokhna, about 150 km east of Cairo.
Doosan will design, supply and install the two units for the power plant.
Egypt is expected to see a 5 per cent growth in annual power demand and
Doosan estimates that rising power demand in Egypt means the country will need to install an extra 2,000MW a year of capacity over the coming years.
The African Development Bank is involved in the financing of the project.
