Biography: Douglas Beckett was appointed head of retail banking at Mashreqbank in January 2008. In this role, he has led a repositioning of the business and to focus on a more affluent and priority wealth management customer base.

Before joining Mashreqbank, Beckett had been general manager of retail banking at Qatar National Bank (QNB) since 2005, where he oversaw the management of 45 branches and played a key role in revitalising its domestic franchise.

Prior to this, Beckett worked for 23 years at the UK’s Standard Chartered bank, where he held several senior positions, including head of retail banking in Africa.

Beckett graduated from the UK’s Manchester University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in management services and has a master’s of business administration from Henley Management College, also in the UK.
