New coatings plant to be built at Jubail Industrial City
The US’ Dow Chemical plans to invest in the construction of a new coatings facility at the Jubail Industrial City in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia.
The plant will supply coatings materials for the domestic and export markets, the company said in a statement. No details were given on the planned start-up date, nor the facility’s production capacity.
The project is the latest in a series of Dow investments in Saudi Arabia. In July 2011, Dow and state-owned Saudi Aramco signed an agreement to form the Sadara Chemical Company, a joint venture to build and operate a fully integrated chemicals complex in Jubail.
Dow also announced plans to invest in a manufacturing facility in Jubail producing its patented Filmtec reverse-osmosis elements used in desalination. The completion date for the project is late 2014 or early 2015 and a two-year construction period is expected.
