Higher mobile phone usage drives revenues
Emirate Integrated Telecommunications Company (Du) has announced a 28 per cent rise in revenues for the second quarter of this year to AED2bn ($591m) driven mainly by the rise in mobile phone usage.
Net profit before royalty rose 51 per cent to AED414m since the same period last year and mobile data revenues increased 74 per cent to AED151m.
“More than a quarter of the growth in mobile revenue can be attributed to an increase in average revenue per user (ARPU), driven by increased usage by our customers,” says Osman Sultan, chief executive officer of Du.
The operator completed a new club loan facility of $200m along with the repayment of the AD3bn syndicated loan.
According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) figures, Du had 44 per cent market share as of end-July.
