Traffic increase linked to economic recovery

Dubai International airport has reported a 10.7 per cent increase in passengers during August, a third consecutive month of double-digit growth.

The region’s largest airport handled 3.72 million passengers during the month compared to 3.36 million in August 2008. This follows a 10.3 per cent rise in traffic in June and 12.6 per cent growth in July.

During the first eight months of 2009, Dubai International handled 26.87 million passengers compared to 25.1 million during the corresponding period in 2008, an increase of 6.7 per cent.

Dubai’s growth is in line with the region’s recovery. On 29 September, the latest figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) showed regional passenger numbers increased 10.8 per cent in August.
