The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has extended the bid deadline to 16 May for package AX 151 on the phase 2 expansion of Dubai International Airport. Known as Dubai Airwing Facilities, the main elements of the project entail the construction of: eight aircraft hangars; administration and ground services buildings; a royal terminal, with associated passenger loading bridges and baggage handling; and a main gatehouse.

In addition, the selected contractor will carry out mechanical, electrical and plumbing works and the construction of support buildings, including electrical substations, pump rooms and workshops. On-site works will include roads and pavements, traffic control systems, street lighting, perimeter fencing and the relocation of existing communications towers. Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners)is the consultant.

The estimated AED 400 million ($110 million) scheme is intended to provide ground facilities for the Emiri flight. DCA has invited contractors to prequalify for construction and civil engineering packages, with a value not exceeding AED 50 million ($14 million), which fall under the scope of the $4,200 million phase 2 expansion of the airport.

DCA is current examining options for the provision of private funding for the remainder of the scheme (MEED 23:4:04).
