Dubai approaches contractors for sixth creek crossing

27 March 2008
Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority has invited selected contractors to express interest in the contract to build the sixth creek crossing bridge.

The AED2.5bn ($681m) arch-shaped bridge will link Jadaf and Business Bay with the planned Lagoons development and Dubai Festival City.

It will also provide access to an island in the creek, which the local developer Sama Dubai plans to build an opera house on.

The bridge will be 1.6 kilometres long, 64 metres wide and 15 metres above the water level. It will have 12 lanes for road traffic and a track for the Green Line of Dubai Metro. It will be able to handle around 20,000 vehicles an hour. The project also includes 12 km of new roads and 22 intersections.

The work is due to be completed in 2012. US-based FXFowle designed the bridge (MEED 31:1:08).
