Dubai develops district cooling standards

27 May 2008
Work has started on defining standards for the district cooling industry in Dubai, according to Ahmad bin Shafar, chief executive officer of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower).

Speaking at MEED’s District Cooling conference in Dubai on 26 May, he said Empower is sponsoring the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers to recommend standards that will apply to district cooling systems in the emirate.

It is understood that that Dubai Electricity & Water Authority could make application of the standards a condition for supplying power and water to district cooling systems in the future.

According to Empower, work on the standards will be completed in six months.
