Emirate had been targeting the 2020 games
Dubai is preparing to bid for the 2024 Olympic Games as the emirate aims to host more high profile international events to further bolster the emirate’s economy.
According to a report in the Abu Dhabi-based English language daily The National, the National Olympic Committee is planning a “comprehensive and winning bid”.
To stage the 2024 Games, a comprehensive bid book must be presented to the International Olympic Committee in 2015 and the winning bid would be revealed in 2017. Among cities known to be interested in hosting the 2024 Games are Paris, Berlin, Rome, Los Angeles and Doha.
Dubai had been planning to bid for the 2020 Olympics, but in 2011 indicated that it would delay these plans. At the time Dubai estimated that 70 per cent of infrastructure required to host the event had either already been built or was planned.
Dubai is also bidding to Expo 2020, a global fair exhibiting various technological developments.
